2023 Cadillac Escalade
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long should a replacement fob last on a 2023 Escalade?

A properly programmed fob on this vehicle should last as long as the original. The programming itself does not wear out over time. What actually fails first on most fobs is the physical shell: the buttons get soft, the casing cracks, or the battery contacts weaken from repeated swaps. On GM luxury fobs, owners on forums typically report five to eight years of normal use before the buttons start feeling mushy or the range drops noticeably.

Q: What happens if the replacement fob stops working a few weeks after you program it?

Call me. I back up every key I make. If remote function drops, the vehicle stops recognizing the fob, or anything else goes sideways after I leave, I come back and sort it out. That warranty matters because this is exactly the risk with buying a fob online or using someone who disappears after the job.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2023 Escalade. Can you still make a replacement without any working key present?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 2023 Escalade is a job I handle regularly. It requires professional diagnostic equipment to access the immobilizer and wipe the key memory before new fobs can be enrolled. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works on this generation. The process takes longer than a standard add-a-key because of the security handshake involved, but it is a mobile job. I come to you.

Q: My 2023 Escalade shows a key warning on the dash even though I have the fob in my hand. What is going on?

A few things can trigger a key-not-detected warning when the fob is physically present. The most common: low battery in the fob, a fob that has lost its pairing after a battery swap done in the wrong sequence, or interference from another device near the vehicle. Some owners on GM forums have also reported that placing the fob near certain wireless chargers can temporarily disrupt the signal. First move is a fresh CR2450 seated correctly.

2023 Cadillac Escalade Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Cardiff-by-the-Sea on a Friday night is exactly the kind of place where a dead fob battery becomes an actual problem.

A couple came out after dinner near the water and the Escalade went quiet. No response from the fob, no door unlock, nothing. The push-button start was not going to help them either. They did what most people do: swapped the battery at a nearby pharmacy, watched it fail again, and started wondering if something bigger was wrong. That second failure is usually when the panic sets in.

They found me online and I was in Encinitas already, about ten minutes out. I pulled up with the CR2450 cells already racked and the correct fob shell for that vehicle in a labeled drawer. The issue was not complicated once I was looking at it. The new battery they had bought was seated wrong, barely making contact, and the fob had also lost its sync with the vehicle.

I reseated everything, ran the programming sequence through my diagnostic tool, and walked the buttons one by one. Lock, unlock, cargo access, remote functions, all of it. The Escalade came to life on the first press.

They drove home that same night. The dealer would have meant leaving a full-size luxury SUV in a lot all weekend and waiting for a Monday appointment. When I stock the right parts before I leave the house, a Friday night call in Cardiff-by-the-Sea is the same job as a Tuesday morning call anywhere else in Encinitas.

Cadillac Escalade Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket fobs for the 2023 Escalade?▼

We use OEM-spec fobs matched to the factory FCC ID on file for your vehicle. On the 2023 Escalade specifically, the security system is generation-specific and communicates over a newer GM network architecture. Cheap aftermarket fobs and used fobs from other vehicles often fail to program because they carry the wrong internal configuration or are already enrolled elsewhere.
