2010 Cadillac Escalade Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Old Town National City, a guy flagged me down after calling from a highway rest stop on the edge of town. He had his 2010 Escalade idling but was afraid to shut it off.

The key blade was visibly worn. You could see rounding on the cuts just by holding it up. He said it had been stiff for a while, catching on the ignition wafers every time he turned it. He was at the point where he was nursing it through each start, half-expecting it to snap off in the cylinder. Another locksmith had already given him a phone quote for a full ignition cylinder replacement.

I decoded the lock from the door cylinder. The door cylinder wafers were cleaner than the ignition, which happens when drivers skip using the door lock and go straight for the key fob to unlock remotely. Reading the wafer positions from the door gave me the exact cut depths I needed without touching the worn ignition at all. I cut a fresh key blade to those specs and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port to pair it with the immobilizer.

The ignition turned smooth on the first try. No cylinder replacement, no drilling, nothing disturbed.

He had been quoted a number that would have included a new cylinder, new keys, and labor. He walked away spending a fraction of that. The original cylinder is still in the truck, working fine with a properly cut blade.
