He was at the taco shop in Chula Vista and his backpack was gone. Someone grabbed it from the booth while he was at the counter. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it. He borrowed the cashier's phone and called the police first, then his girlfriend, then me.
His 2003 Chevrolet Astro was in the lot with zero keys. The dealer told his girlfriend they could order a key but it would be 3 to 5 business days, the truck needed to be towed in, and they recommended rekeying since the stolen key could still open the doors. Combined estimate was over $700.

I used my IM608 to access the body control module, wipe the old key data, and program two new keys from scratch. His smart key, FCC ID , was a 3-button proximity fob. I decoded the lock, cut the emergency blade, and had both fobs working before the police called back.
He drove home that night. Total was $95 for two new keys. The dealer estimated $200 plus a tow and a week without his truck. The stolen key can still physically fit the lock, but the immobilizer won't let the engine fire.
