If you also need a new blade programmed to the immobilizer, that part still needs a programmer. So: bought a fob online, blade is fine and you just need the remote buttons to work, the self-program route may be worth trying. Need a full working key from scratch, call me.

Start with the CR2032. A weak battery in this fob can drop RF range to almost nothing before it dies completely, so the fob looks dead when it is just low. If range is still short or inconsistent after a fresh battery, the fob itself may have taken physical damage, water intrusion being the most common cause on trucks this age. The good news is that a bad fob does not affect starting, so you are not stranded. It just means you are manually locking and unlocking until the fob gets sorted. If a new battery and clean contacts do not fix it, the fob needs to be replaced and reprogrammed.
