Out near the Garden Road Area in Poway, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon. He'd been out near the water, came back to his 2007 Avalanche, and the key was gone.
Not in his pocket, not on the ground around the truck, nowhere. He'd had it since he bought it used a few years back, one key, no spare. The truck was locked and he was standing next to a parking lot with no way in and no way home.

When I got to him, the Avalanche was sitting there big and quiet. First thing I did was pick the door, decoded the wafer positions right off the lock cylinder, and cut a new blade on site. That part goes fast. The longer part is the immobilizer relearn.
On this generation, an all-keys-lost procedure means connecting through the OBD port, clearing the existing key memory, and registering the new transponder from scratch. The truck won't just accept a new key on its own. You have to tell it a new key is coming. I ran the sequence, registered the new key, and turned it over. Started clean.
He asked if I could cut him a second one while I was there. Of course. Second key programmed into the same session, no extra trip, no extra wait.
The whole thing was done in under an hour. He drove home from the same lot he'd been stranded in. Dealer would have meant a tow, a wait for an appointment, and a bill that would have hurt. He got two working keys and none of that.
