2009 Chevrolet Avalanche Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy parked near the pier in Downtown Oceanside. He had his 2009 Avalanche, one key, and that key had just snapped off partway in his pocket. The blade was bent and the remote head was cracked. It still turned the ignition but he could tell it was days from dying completely, and he wanted a spare cut and programmed before the original gave out entirely.
The thing about the Avalanche on this platform is that the transponder has to be enrolled through the vehicle's immobilizer. You cannot just cut a blade and hand it over. The new key blank gets cut to match his ignition, and then the programming sequence links the chip to the vehicle. His original damaged key stayed on the ring the whole time as the already-enrolled key, which kept the process clean.
He watched me do it from the sidewalk. When the newly cut key turned and the truck started right up without the dash throwing any warnings, he just nodded like he had been hoping it would go that way but was not going to say so out loud.
He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier in the week. They told him to tow it in and plan on waiting a day. He did not tow it anywhere. I came to him, did it on the spot, for a fraction of what they quoted.
