Out in Rancho Del Oro on a Saturday morning, I met a woman who had already been through this once. She volunteers at a local temple and had called a different locksmith a few weeks before. He came out, charged her for a full key replacement on her 2011 Honda Fit, and left. The car would crank, fire up for about two seconds, and then die. Every single time.

I connected through the OBD port, cleared the partial enrollment from the previous attempt, and ran a clean registration with the timer allowed to run all the way through. Then I verified the key was written to permanent memory before I called it done. Confirmed all four buttons on the fob. Confirmed a clean start with no two-second stall. Showed her the confirmation on my tool screen so she was not just taking my word for it.
She had already paid once for a job that was not finished. I could not fix that part. But I could make sure she was leaving with a key that actually worked, and she paid a fraction of what the dealer would have charged for the same procedure.
