2009 Lexus GX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy in La Mesa Village, over near the older residential stretch where a lot of homes are tucked inside gated HOA communities. His GX was parked inside the gate.
Key in hand, wouldn't start. He'd already called a tow company and they couldn't get through because the HOA keeps an approved-vendor list and a random flatbed on short notice wasn't on it. He was looking at a whole approval process just to move the car to a shop.
I asked him to meet me at the gate and he walked me in. No approval paperwork needed for one guy in a van.
He had one key with him. The fob buttons had stopped responding and the engine wasn't starting. I popped the battery first -- CR1616, and what was in there had clearly been sitting a long time. Swapped it, tested the remotes. Buttons came back. Then I verified the transponder was still communicating correctly with the immobilizer by attempting a start and watching how the system responded.
It fired right up.
We tested it a few more times, confirmed the locks and the trunk release button were all responding, and that was the job. The whole issue was a dead battery in a fob that looks like it should still work because the blade is fine and the housing is fine.
He mentioned he'd budgeted for a full replacement after a friend told him the dealer quoted a significant amount just to diagnose and reprogram. He saved a good chunk by not going that route. More importantly, his car never moved and no tow was involved.
