2019 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Cardiff-by-the-Sea, around 6 in the evening. A woman called me from a specialist's office parking lot in Encinitas. Her father had just finished an appointment and was waiting in a wheelchair at the curb.
She pressed the start button and got nothing. Tried holding the fob to the button like she had heard somewhere. Still nothing. The dealer was closed. She found me online and I was there inside thirty minutes.
She had already done the right thing, kept calm and got her father seated on a bench near the entrance. The car was unlocked from the interior, so at least that was not a problem.
I popped the fob open first, before I touched anything else. The CR1632 had a faint ring of corrosion on the positive contact, just enough to drop the voltage below what the system wanted. I cleaned the contact, seated a fresh cell, and the fob lit right up. Touch unlock on both handles, hatch release, start button response, full run-through.
She asked if I needed to plug into the car. In this case, no reprogramming was needed because the fob itself was never erased from the vehicle's memory. The connection had just been broken at the battery. Once the fob was transmitting cleanly again, the car recognized it exactly as it always had.
From her call to the engine running was under forty-five minutes. She got her father home that evening, in his own seat, without a second vehicle or a complicated transfer.
The dealer conversation never really came up. She was just glad someone showed up.
