2017 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was parked outside a dog groomer in Downtown Fallbrook, texting me the VIN before I even left my last job.
That detail matters more than it sounds. On a 2017 GX, add-a-key is a completely different job than all-keys-lost. She had a working fob, she knew her VIN, and she had her ID ready. That combination is the fastest version of this call. I had the correct blank prepped in the van on the drive over.
When I pulled up, she was standing with one dog on a leash and the other apparently still getting a blowout inside. We set up on the hood. I pulled out her existing fob first, checked the battery, checked the contacts. Everything looked fine. Good. That meant her fob wasn't the problem and the car's system should read it clean during the pairing sequence.
Connected the diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, ran through the smart key registration, added the new fob alongside the original. Then I walked every function: door handles, lock buttons, the cargo area. All of it. She tested it herself before I packed up.
Total time from parking to handing it over was about twenty minutes. The second dog was still inside getting dried.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just for the appointment, and that was before any labor. I didn't have much to add to that.
