2022 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already in the Bayside area of Imperial Beach when the call came in, which almost never happens that cleanly.
A real estate agent had a showing lined up at nine in the morning. Her GX was sitting in a lot off the main strip, push-button start not responding, and she had maybe 45 minutes before her clients showed up. She had already tried holding the fob closer to the start button, which is the instinct everyone has. It helped for one start two days earlier, which told me the battery was on its way out rather than dead flat.
I was at the lot in under 25 minutes. Popped the fob case, CR2032 was reading low, replaced it on the hood of my van. That got the door handles responding again. But the start button was still throwing a key-not-detected warning on the cluster, which meant the fob and the immobilizer had lost their handshake -- probably from days of marginal battery voltage confusing the communication.
Connected through the OBD port, cleared the fault, reconfirmed the fob registration. The GX fired up on the first push.
Total hands-on time was around 20 minutes. She made her nine o'clock. She mentioned what the dealer had quoted her for a full key replacement, and I told her she could call me back if she ever actually needed that. She laughed. That was the end of it.
