Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was close to 6 in the evening when she called, parked outside a specialist's office in the Sweetwater part of National City. Her father had just finished an appointment and was in his wheelchair next to the car. She pressed the start button. Nothing. She held the fob right against the button like the manual says. Still nothing.

The dealer was already closed. She needed to get her father home.

By the time I got there she had already done all the logical things: pressed every button, checked that the door was actually open, tried again. I got in and found the fob was not registering at all. When I opened it up, the CR1632 had left a residue on the contact plate. Not full corrosion, but enough that the transponder chip was not waking up properly. The fob itself was not sending.

New fob, programmed on site through the diagnostic port, emergency insert key cut to the vehicle. I walked every function before I called it done: door handles, start button, lock, unlock, the whole sequence.

From her first call to the engine running was just under 50 minutes. She got her father loaded and home that night in his own car. The dealer quote she looked up later was a reminder of what she almost had to deal with on top of everything else. She saved a good chunk, and she did not have to wait three days.
