2013 Lexus GX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2013 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy from East Lemon Grove called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He said his GX had been acting up for a couple weeks but he kept putting it off. That morning it stopped letting him in entirely. He was standing next to it in a parking lot off Massachusetts Avenue, pressing the fob at the door handle, getting nothing.

When I got there I asked him the usual. How old is the battery in the fob. He had no idea. Probably original, he said. The GX was a used purchase and he had never popped the fob open.

The CR1632 inside was reading almost no voltage. That was the whole story. But before I handed it back I walked all four buttons, tested the touch unlock on both front handles, and checked the liftgate button, which on these can lag or miss if the system is not seeing the fob cleanly. Everything came back solid once the fresh cell was seated and the contact clips were straightened out.

Then I showed him the emergency insert blade in the back of the fob. He had owned the GX for two years and genuinely did not know it was there. That part took thirty seconds and probably saved him a future headache.

The whole job was short. He mentioned he had been close to calling the dealer. I did not spend much time on that part of the conversation, but I could tell he was surprised at how quick a fix it turned out to be.
