2010 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a family out in Fanita Ranch, Santee. They had an LX sitting in their driveway and exactly zero working fobs. One had been lost for a while. The other one they had been using just stopped being recognized by the car. They had already called the dealer, heard the timeline, and decided to find another option.
When I pulled up, I asked the usual questions first: recent battery work, any other electrical weirdness, anyone else had the car. Nothing unusual. The fob battery was dead, so I had them hold it against the start button. Nothing. That told me the issue was deeper than the battery.
I set up on their driveway and connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port. On this generation of LX, the all-keys-lost process requires pulling a security seed from the vehicle's immobilizer system before you can register anything new. That step alone adds time. It is not a countdown you can rush. I cut the emergency insert blade for the door while the process ran.
Once the seed calculation was done, I registered the new fob, then started the verification process. I walked the perimeter of the LX testing lock, unlock, and the rear liftgate button from increasing distances. Three consecutive starts. Interior functions. The whole loop.
The husband came out halfway through my range testing and watched me walk across the driveway pressing buttons at different angles. He said it looked like I was doing a dance routine. I told him it looks weird but it catches the problems that bite you two days later when the owner is somewhere less convenient than their own driveway.
They saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and they didn't have to leave the car anywhere or wait for parts to be ordered.
