2015 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Santaluz reached out on a Tuesday morning. He had one working key for his 2015 LX and his wife had left with it. Second fob had been sitting in a kitchen drawer for about a year and when he finally grabbed it, nothing worked. No door response, no start, nothing.
He had already swapped the battery himself. Brand new CR1632, seated correctly. Still dead. He figured the fob was just fried.
I drove out to Rancho Bernardo and met him in front of the house. Before I pulled any equipment, I asked one question: did the push-button start ever respond to the fob at all, even once, since he changed the battery. He said no, not even a flicker on the dash.
That told me this was a programming issue, not a hardware failure. A fob with a dead transmitter usually shows some partial behavior. A fob that was simply dropped from the vehicle's memory shows nothing at all, which is exactly what he was seeing.
I connected my programmer through the OBD port, brought up the key registration menu, and verified the working key first so I had a confirmed baseline. Then I walked through the add-a-key process with the non-working fob. The vehicle accepted it on the first attempt. Tested the door handles, tested the start button, tested every function on both fobs side by side.
The original fob was not broken. It had just been off long enough, and possibly through a battery swap at some point prior, that it lost its pairing. Two keys working, job done on site.
He mentioned he had called the Lexus dealer earlier that week and was told to bring the vehicle in, which would have meant scheduling an appointment, a trip to the service department, and a wait. He said the mobile option had not even occurred to him until he started searching. That part I hear a lot.
