2012 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy near the CSUSM Area who'd already been through it once with a different locksmith he found through a cheap Google ad.
He had a 2012 Lexus LX and a smart key that only half-worked after that first guy left. Doors would unlock, but the push-to-start wouldn't respond to the fob. He was starting the car by holding the fob directly against the start button every single time, which works as a backup but is not a real fix.
First thing he asked me on the phone was how to know I wasn't going to do the same thing. Fair. I gave him my BSIS license number right there in the conversation and told him to look it up on the state site before I drove out. He did. He called me back two minutes later and said come on over.
When I got there I pulled up the key registration status with my diagnostic equipment. What the first locksmith had done was a partial job. The fob was loosely paired but the security handshake wasn't completed correctly, so the vehicle's immobilizer wasn't fully accepting the key as authorized for start. It would recognize the fob for door access but not for the ignition sequence.
I cleared the incomplete registration, ran the full programming procedure, and verified every button including the panic and the lock cycle. Push-to-start came up clean. I walked him through testing it himself a few times before I packed up.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number that made him wince. He paid a fraction of that between the first locksmith and me combined, and still came out ahead.
