2016 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got the call from a customer in Ramona Highlands on a Tuesday afternoon. She had a 2016 LX that another locksmith had programmed a replacement fob for about a week and a half earlier.
It worked fine at first. Then it started acting up during the warmest part of the day, and by the time she called me the vehicle was giving her a key-not-detected warning every second or third attempt to start.
She figured it was heat, or maybe the battery, and she had already swapped the CR1632 herself. That part was actually correct. But the car still hesitated.
When I got to her place off the main road in Ramona Highlands, I pulled up the vehicle with my diagnostic equipment and checked what was registered to the immobilizer. The replacement fob the other locksmith had used carried the wrong chip generation for this platform. It had passed the initial programming step because the surface-level pairing completed without error. But the deeper security verification that the LX runs on subsequent start cycles was rejecting it intermittently. Some starts would clear. Others would not. That kind of partial failure is harder for an owner to diagnose because the car does not behave consistently.
I programmed a new fob with the correct chip matched to her vehicle, confirmed all four buttons, verified touch-lock on the door handles, and ran several start cycles before I considered it done. Then I made sure her own emergency blade was cut to spec as well, because it had never been addressed during the original job.
She had already paid once for a key that did not hold up. The dealer route would have cost her considerably more than what I charged, and she would have had to leave the car and wait days for an appointment.
