He had a 2022 Lexus LX. Both fobs were gone. One had been lost on a trip weeks earlier and he'd been meaning to deal with it. The second went with a jacket he left somewhere. By the time he called me, he was standing in his driveway with a large, capable SUV that was not going anywhere.

All-keys-lost on this generation of Lexus is a tool-dependent job. The system needs to be accessed at the diagnostic port, existing key data cleared, and new fobs enrolled from scratch. I backed up the relevant module data first, which takes a few extra minutes but means if anything interrupts mid-process you're not starting from a worse position. Then I ran the registration sequence and had both new fobs enrolled.
He asked if I could have just done one fob to save money. I told him I could, but now was the time to do two. Clearing the system and starting over has a fixed time cost regardless of how many fobs you're adding, and adding a second while already in the process costs a lot less than coming back for it separately.
Both fobs worked. Liftgate, door handles, start button, the whole system behaved. He didn't need a tow. Didn't need a dealer appointment two weeks out. He just needed the right equipment driven out to San Diego Country Estates.
