First thing to check is the CR2032. A battery that's low enough to cut out the radio signal can still supply enough current for the transponder to register at start. Swap the battery before assuming anything else is wrong.

If a fresh battery doesn't bring the buttons back, the fob may need to be re-paired to the vehicle's receiver. That's a quick procedure. It's also worth checking whether all the buttons are dead or just some, because a single dead button usually points to a worn contact pad in the housing rather than a programming issue. That's a shell swap, not a reprogram.
