2024 Lincoln Navigator
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Can you delete a lost or stolen key from my Navigator so it can't start the vehicle anymore?

Yes. When we do an all-keys-lost procedure, the immobilizer memory gets wiped. Every previously stored key identity is erased. Only the keys physically present during that programming session get written into the system. Anything not there, lost, stolen, or otherwise, gets deauthorized and will not start the car. If you think a fob walked off with someone, this is the correct way to handle it. One new key registered on site, and the old one is dead.

Q: Does my 2024 Navigator smart fob have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a release tab on the fob body, and the metal blade slides out from the bottom. On this generation of Navigator the driver door lock cylinder is tucked behind a small cover on the door handle surround, so it's not immediately obvious. Pop the cover off, insert the blade, and you can get in even with a completely dead fob battery or an unresponsive proximity system. Worth knowing before you need it at midnight.

Q: My Navigator fob locks and unlocks the doors fine but the engine won't start. What is happening?

This is a specific failure pattern worth knowing about. The lock and unlock functions on a smart fob use a different communication path than the immobilizer authentication that happens at engine start. A fob can have enough signal to trigger the door locks but still fail the security handshake the vehicle performs right before allowing the starter to engage.

Q: How long does it take to get a replacement smart key made for a 2024 Navigator, and do I need to be at a dealer?

No dealer trip needed. A mobile locksmith with the right equipment handles this on location, whether that's your driveway near the Naval Base Area or a parking lot. Programming time for a new smart fob on this generation, including key memory operations and function verification, typically runs around 30 to 45 minutes. If you still have one working key, the job is faster. All-keys-lost takes a bit longer because of the security reset sequence.

2024 Lincoln Navigator Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Coronado, near the Naval Base Area, I got a call from a guy who was convinced his 2024 Navigator had a deep electrical problem. He'd had a key programmed by someone else about a week and a half earlier, and it started falling apart almost immediately.

Mornings it worked fine. By the end of the day he'd walk up to the truck, nothing would happen at the door handles, and the dash would throw a key-not-detected warning when he got inside. A couple of times push-to-start came back after he sat there with the fob pressed against the backup slot for a minute. Then it stopped doing even that.

He was ready to call the dealer and leave it there for a week.

I pulled the fob apart first thing. The CR2450 was reading low, which would explain the range issues, but a fresh battery alone wasn't going to fix what he had. When I checked the programming side with my diagnostic equipment, it became clear the previous job had used the wrong transponder generation. The wrong chip can pass initial security verification, register in the system, and start the car for several days before the vehicle's security logic catches up during repeated start cycles and starts rejecting it. That's almost exactly the timeline he described.

I programmed a new key with the correct transponder, confirmed all five buttons were functioning, verified the backup slot read and the wireless range at both front doors, and walked him through using the hidden emergency blade, because he didn't know it was there.

The truck hasn't given him a problem since. The dealer conversation never happened.

Lincoln Navigator Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2024 Lincoln Navigator?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you do anything else, and definitely before you arrange a tow. All-keys-lost on this generation requires diagnostic equipment to erase the existing key memory and register fresh fobs to the immobilizer, but that's a standard job for a properly equipped mobile tech. The dealer route adds towing, a parts markup on the fob, a programming labor line, and sometimes a key-code lookup fee on top.
