Carlton Hills, early morning. A car service driver called me with a broken key situation that had a clock ticking on it.
The blade had snapped off inside the ignition cylinder of his 2011 Lincoln Navigator. Half the key was in his hand, the other half was lodged in the cylinder, and his first fare was less than two hours out. He found me, I was already moving.
I extracted the broken section from the cylinder using the right pick for that lock profile, careful not to disturb the wafers. Once the piece came out clean, I decoded the lock from what I had and cut a fresh blade to match. The remote head key body was intact, so I retained it, fitted the new blade, and went to the OBD port to program the transponder.
The 2011 Navigator has a security timer built into the immobilizer relearn. You do not rush it. I let it run, watched the dash, and waited for the system to accept the new key. He was back in the driver's seat with time to spare before that first pickup.
