I got a call from a body shop out in Del Mar, over near the Carmel Valley edge of town. The shop owner was calm about it, which usually means someone else already made a mess.
A Navigator owner had brought his 2019 in for a key replacement. Another locksmith showed up, started programming, and the battery voltage dropped mid-sequence. The security handshake broke off halfway through. After that, the body control module was sitting in a fault state and would not accept any new key attempts. The first locksmith told him the module was bad and left. That is when the shop called me.

First thing I did before touching the programming side was put my jump pack on the battery and hold voltage steady. A mid-programming dropout on these can look catastrophic, but if you stabilize power and clear the fault codes properly before starting a clean sequence, the module usually comes back. I ran through the fault clearing first, confirmed the module was communicating cleanly, then started the key enrollment from scratch.
The new fob paired on the first attempt after that. No module replacement. No flatbed. No multi-day dealer wait.
Total time was close to two hours because of the recovery work on the front end. The shop owner watched the whole thing. At the end he said the dealer had already quoted the customer a multi-day turnaround. What I charged was a fraction of that. That part I mention only because it came up, not because it is the point. The point is the car started again.
