1996 Subaru Impreza Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Del Mar Heights flagged me down near his driveway on a Tuesday afternoon. He had a 1996 Impreza, burgundy, and he had snapped his only key off inside the door lock. Half the blade was still seated in the cylinder. He had already tried needle-nose pliers and made it worse.
I told him to step back and let me work. I extracted the broken section without damaging the lock, which on a car this age means being patient and not forcing anything. The cylinder on these is not complicated, but it is old, and old brass tumblers do not forgive a heavy hand.
Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded it right there, cut a new key blade to match, and tested it in both the door and the ignition. Turned clean the first time. Engine fired, ran fine, no drama.
He asked if the dealer could have done this. I told him the dealer would have sent him to a tow yard first, then an hourly shop, and he would have waited a day or two minimum. He got it done in his own driveway in under an hour.
The whole point of being mobile is that I come to the car, not the other way around.
