I got a call at the Poway Business Park from a driver who was parked near a brake shop and already frustrated before I even picked up.
He'd already paid another locksmith. Found them through one of those low-bid Google ads, and the guy showed up, took his money, and left him with a key that would start the car but had completely dead remote buttons. Four buttons, zero response. The car ran, but he couldn't lock or unlock remotely, couldn't do anything but use the key like it was 1992.

When I got there, I could see what had happened. The remote side had not been paired correctly. The transponder learned, the immobilizer was satisfied, but the RF pairing to the receiver was incomplete. The previous guy either didn't have the right equipment or didn't finish the process.
I re-paired the fob properly on site using my programming tool, ran through all four buttons, confirmed clean lock and unlock response, and verified the engine start with no hesitation. The whole correction took less time than his original job probably did.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him more than double what I charged, and at that point he would have also needed to arrange a tow. He was already back on the road before that appointment would have even started.
