I got a call from a guy out in Bonsall who had been dealing with a frustrating on-and-off situation with his 2022 Impreza. The fob would work fine for a few days, then his dash would throw a key-not-detected warning right when he walked up to the car. When I got there, he showed me the fob. He had put in a CR2025 instead of the correct CR2032. It looked right, it fit in the housing, but it was sitting just loose enough that any flex in his pocket was breaking contact. The fob would work when it wanted to and ghost him when it didn't. That explained the whole pattern.
I swapped in the correct CR2032, reseated it properly, and walked every function. Door handles, lock, unlock, all four buttons. Then I had him walk away and approach the car like normal to confirm the keyless entry was picking up consistently. Clean reads every time.
He had been two days away from calling the dealer and booking a diagnostic appointment. The kind of appointment where they charge you just to tell you what is wrong before they fix anything. He didn't need any of that. Just the right battery, seated right, tested properly. Done in his driveway in Bonsall.
