2007 Subaru Impreza
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Is a locksmith cheaper than going to the Subaru dealer?

Almost always, and by a real margin. Subaru owners who have posted about key replacement consistently report dealer quotes that run well above what a qualified mobile locksmith charges for the same work. The savings tend to be more pronounced on all-keys-lost jobs, where dealers add time and fees for the immobilizer reset on top of the key cost. We do the same job, with the same result, at your location in Lakeside.

Q: Does your price include cutting and programming?

Yes. The key blank, the cut, and the transponder programming are all one thing with us. Dealers commonly separate those into individual charges, and you sometimes do not see the full number until you are already there. We quote the whole job upfront.

Q: My 2007 Impreza cranks but immediately shuts off after I turn the key. What is happening?

That crank-and-die pattern is one of the clearest signs the immobilizer is not recognizing the transponder chip. The engine management system gets a signal to start, fires briefly, then cuts fuel because the security system did not see a valid key.

Q: Can I get a spare key made for my 2007 Impreza while I still have a working key?

Yes, and it is worth doing before you ever need it. Adding a spare while you have a working key is faster and less expensive than an all-keys-lost job. On this generation, having a functioning key already recognized by the immobilizer opens up options for how the new key gets enrolled. Waiting until you are locked out or down to no keys means more steps and more time.

2007 Subaru Impreza Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked off one of the back roads near Lakeside Proper. He had a 2007 Subaru Impreza and the key blade had snapped inside the ignition. Clean break, half still in his hand, half buried in the cylinder.

He told me another locksmith quoted him a drill-and-replace. New cylinder, rekey, all of it. He was looking at a big number and a car that would never feel quite right again.

I pulled up with my extraction tools and worked the broken fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces. Once it was out, I decoded the lock right there, reading each wafer position to get exact cut depths. Cut a new blade to match, programmed the transponder chip so the immobilizer would accept it, and tested the start twice before I packed up.

The cylinder looked exactly the same as when I arrived. No drill marks, no scratches, nothing replaced. He asked me how the other guy's plan even made sense. I told him destructive entry should genuinely be the last option, not the first quote.

The dealer comparison never even came up. He was just glad the car started.

Subaru Impreza Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2007 Subaru Impreza key replacement cost?▼

Call us for current pricing, but I can tell you it is a fraction of what the dealer will quote you. Subaru dealers typically bill the key blank, the cutting, and the programming as separate line items, and owners on forums consistently report being surprised by how fast those add up, especially for all-keys-lost situations where the dealer has to clear the immobilizer memory before enrolling anything new.
