2024 Subaru Impreza Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Cardiff-by-the-Sea teacher picked up a 2024 Subaru Impreza from an auction lot in Encinitas. Clean car, solid deal, one key. She called the Subaru dealer about adding a spare and got a number that stopped her cold. She wasn't expecting that on a compact sedan. She found EZ Car Keyz online and asked if the dealer quote was real.
It was. Dealers order fobs by VIN, wait for the part to come in, then schedule the programming appointment separately. For a lot of owners, that's a week or more before they're holding a second key.
She was parked at the lot when I pulled up. I connected my programming tool through the OBD port, registered the new fob to the vehicle's immobilizer, and cut the emergency insert blade by decoding her door lock. The whole thing was done on site, one visit, well under an hour.
Lock, unlock, start. Both keys working. She drove home that afternoon with a spare in her bag instead of a dealer appointment on her calendar, and paid a fraction of what they wanted.
The part she didn't mention until I was packing up: she'd almost just lived with one key. A lot of people do. One lost fob on a smart key system with no spare turns into an all-keys-lost job, which is more involved and costs more. Having that second key registered now keeps the next replacement simple if it ever comes to that.
