2003 Subaru Impreza Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy flagged me down near the mosque parking lot off Coronado Avenue in Otay Mesa, right on the edge of Nestor. He looked like he'd been standing there a while.
He'd already paid another locksmith for a 2003 Subaru Impreza key. The car would crank, catch for about two seconds, then die. The other guy told him the immobilizer module was bad and walked off. Left him with a bill and a car that still wouldn't run.
I've seen this exact scenario. The Impreza's immobilizer registration isn't instant. There's a timed security handshake built into the process, and if the procedure gets rushed or abandoned partway through, the system writes key data temporarily and then drops it. The car acts like it almost accepted the key. It didn't.
I verified the blade cut with my Lishi tool, then connected through the OBD port with my programmer. I cleared the incomplete key data that the first locksmith had left behind, ran the full immobilizer registration with the correct timing, and watched the confirmation come through on screen. Then I tested the remote fob, all four buttons, from across the lot.
He asked me if I was sure it was done. I showed him the confirmation screen and told him to start it himself. He did. It idled like nothing had ever been wrong.
I charged him less than half what the dealer quoted. He'd already paid once for work that didn't hold. That part was rough. But at least this time it was actually finished.
