2009 Subaru Impreza Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Down in the Seacoast area of Imperial Beach, right near the water access, a guy called me about his 2009 Impreza. He had been kayaking at the state beach lot and somewhere between dragging his kayak up the sand and rinsing off at the outdoor shower, his only key vanished. He retraced every step. Talked to the lifeguard station. Nothing. The car sat locked in the lot and he had no backup.
He assumed it meant a tow to the dealer and a wait that stretched into the next day. I told him I could be there that afternoon and do everything on site.
When I pulled up, the car was closed up tight. I decoded the lock mechanically, reading the wafer positions so I could cut a working blade without ever having the original. That gets me in the door and gives me the cut code for the new key.
Then came the immobilizer work. On a car this age, all-keys-lost means clearing the old enrolled keys out of the system and teaching the new transponder key as the primary. I ran that sequence through the OBD port with my programmer. New key cut, chip enrolled, tested in the ignition.
The car started in the same beach lot it had been sitting in. He loaded his kayak and drove home.
He mentioned almost offhand that a friend had done something similar with a different car and paid the dealer a lot more for the same outcome. That part I left alone. The job speaks for itself.
