Do you need to tow your 2001 Subaru Impreza to the dealer? Probably not. For most Subaru models from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.
A third-shift factory worker in Ramona had his only key die at home late at night. His Impreza was parked in the gravel alley behind his duplex with push-to-start and no fob the car would recognize. I connected my Smart Pro to OBD and ran the Subaru smart key AKL procedure. His Remote, FCC ID NHVWB1U711, was a 4-button proximity fob with an emergency blade inside. I programmed it in the alley behind his duplex at midnight.
His total was about $96. Dealer would have been $204 plus a tow. There are a small number of very new Subaru platforms where the security gateway blocks my tools from doing AKL. Those need the dealer and I'll tell you upfront. But for the majority on the road, 2005 through about 2021, I do all-keys-lost on-site regularly.
