A guy came back from a long backpacking trip and walked straight from the terminal to the parking structure near Fletcher Cove. Level four. He had been gone a few weeks. The 2010 Legacy had been sitting the whole time.
He pointed the fob at the car and got nothing. Tried again. Nothing. The battery in the remote head key had died while it sat. He went to use the emergency blade to get in manually and then realized it was in a bag in the trunk. The trunk release on the fob was dead too, and the sedan does not have a mechanical trunk release from inside the cabin once it is locked.
The dealer told him Thursday was the earliest opening. It was Tuesday morning. A tow would cost him more than the key job just to get the car off the structure. He found us online.
I drove out to the garage and got the door open without touching the car's finish. Once inside, the blade in the door lock had done its job. I swapped the CR2032, checked that the battery contacts in the fob housing were seated right, and connected my programmer to confirm the key was still enrolled to the vehicle's immobilizer. It was. No re-registration needed. The remote functions came right back.
He drove home that same morning. The dealer comparison was an afterthought by that point. He just wanted to get home and sleep, and he did.
