2012 Subaru Legacy
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to me in the Beyer Blvd Corridor area?

San Ysidro is our territory. Beyer Blvd Corridor, the clinic lots, the shopping centers along the main stretch, all of it. Typical arrival is around 30 minutes from when you call, depending on where exactly you're parked and what traffic looks like near the border crossing. When you call, give us the year, make, model, and whether you have any working keys at all. That's what determines which blanks and which programming path we load up for the 2012 Legacy.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today, without an appointment?

Yes. We carry compatible key blanks and OBD programming equipment for the 2012 Legacy on every call. There's no ordering a part, no waiting for a fob to ship to a dealer, no multi-day lag before anyone can help you. Subaru owners on forums regularly report being told the fob has to be ordered by VIN before the dealer will even schedule the programming visit. That can stretch into several days before you're holding a working key.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2012 Legacy. Can I program it myself?

Not on this system. The 2012 Legacy remote head key requires OBD-based programming equipment to register the transponder to the immobilizer. There's no ignition-turn sequence or button combination that will enroll a new key on this vehicle. That kind of onboard self-programming belongs to an older era of Subaru key systems. If you already bought a fob, it isn't wasted. As long as it's a compatible blank with the right configuration for this vehicle, we can program it on site.

Q: My 2012 Legacy starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Start with the CR2032 battery. A dying cell on this fob will kill the remote range and button response well before it affects the transponder, so the car keeps starting normally while the remote goes silent. Swap the battery, make sure it seats flat against both contacts, and retest all four buttons.

2012 Subaru Legacy Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A disabled veteran called me from the VA clinic parking lot off Beyer Blvd, right here in the San Ysidro corridor. His 2012 Legacy was sitting there, and his only key's remote had stopped responding. He uses a wheelchair, his wife was out of town, and getting to a dealer wasn't just inconvenient, it was genuinely not happening that day without help.

I drove straight to the clinic lot.

He had one working key, so at least the car could start. But with no functional remote on a single key, he was one bad day away from being completely locked out. I decoded the lock mechanically, cut a second key blade to match, and programmed both the transponder and the remote functions through the OBD port using my scanner. The whole thing happened in the lot while he waited in the shade near the clinic entrance.

He didn't need to call anyone. Didn't need to reschedule. Didn't need to get towed anywhere. He left with two working keys, remote functions on both.

The dealer quote he'd gotten previously was for one key and didn't include any mobile service. We came out to him, did two keys, and it was a fraction of what they'd quoted.

Subaru Legacy Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2012 Subaru Legacy key replacement take?▼

Depends on the situation. If you have at least one working key and just need a spare added, programming time through the OBD port is typically short once we're connected and the equipment does its handshake with the immobilizer. Total time on site, from arrival to handing you a tested key, usually runs under an hour. All-keys-lost is a longer job.
