2015 Subaru Legacy Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was over near Rancho Santa Fe Village when this one came in. A woman had parked near one of the small boutique shops off La Granada, ran inside for what she figured was ten minutes, came back, and the car just sat there. Fob wouldn't unlock the doors. Start button inside was dark to the fob. The key-not-detected warning was sitting on the dash like it had been there a while.
She'd already done the obvious thing - popped the fob open in the parking lot, swapped the CR2032 with a fresh one she bought from the pharmacy two doors down. Still nothing.
When I arrived she handed me both batteries, the old one and the new one. The new one tested fine. The old one was reading low but not flat. What caught my eye was the battery tray inside the fob. There was a faint film of corrosion on one of the contact points, the kind that builds up slowly over years and looks almost clean until you check it under light. The battery was making contact, but it wasn't making good contact.
I cleaned the contacts, seated the new CR2032 correctly, and closed the fob back up. The car recognized it immediately. We tested all four buttons, the door handles, and confirmed the engine would start before I called it done.
She mentioned she'd been quoted a full replacement fob and programming at the dealer when she called them earlier. She didn't need any of that. Just the right fix, on site, in Rancho Santa Fe Village, for a fraction of what they wanted.
