2002 Toyota Avalon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Toyota Avalon Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman in Scripps Ranch on a Tuesday afternoon. She had a 2002 Avalon, one working key, and her husband had the only spare at work across town. She wanted a second key made before she lost the one she had.

She had already called the dealer. Parts, cutting, programming labor, shop supplies. The number they gave her was high enough that she started looking for other options. That is when she found me.

I pulled up to her driveway, plugged into the OBD port, and let the diagnostic computer read the security data from the vehicle. The 2002 Avalon's immobilizer system needs the existing security seed calculated before a new transponder key can be registered. That process runs through the port and takes a few minutes. Nothing dramatic. The computer does the math.

Once the system accepted the new key, I cut the blade to match the door and ignition, handed it to her, and watched her start the car herself. Engine came up clean. No hesitation, no stall.

She mentioned the dealer quote again while I was packing up. I just told her the total was a fraction of what they wanted and every part of the job was already included in that number. She seemed surprised it was done before her lunch break ended.
