2016 Toyota Avalon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2016 Toyota Avalon Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He had been out of town for a week. The Avalon sat in the economy lot at the airport the whole time, exactly where he left it.

He came off the shuttle with two bags, walked up to the car, and nothing happened. No click, no lights, no response from the door handle. He tried the fob a few more times standing closer, then further away, the way everyone does when they already know it is not working. Dead battery in the fob. That was his best guess. His worst guess was that it was something else.

The emergency insert key was in his carry-on. Which was in the trunk. Which was locked.

The dealer had availability Thursday. It was Tuesday afternoon. A tow from that lot was going to run well over a hundred dollars and still leave him carless for two days.

He called me. I was in Carlsbad, out near Bressi Ranch, and I made it to him in about forty minutes.

Getting the door open without damage took maybe three minutes. After that I swapped the CR1632, seated it correctly, and ran diagnostics through the OBD port to check on the fob registration and clear a communication fault the dead battery had logged. Both fobs came back registered and talking cleanly. No programming work needed beyond the fault clear.

He drove home that afternoon. I left him with a spare CR1632 in the glovebox and a working key in each hand. The car never moved from the space he had parked it in seven days earlier.

He mentioned the dealer quote on the way out. I told him to hang onto that number in case he ever needs a comparison.
