2009 Toyota Avalon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Toyota Avalon Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He had been at the airport for about twenty minutes when he called. Week-long work trip, luggage on the curb, and his 2009 Avalon Limited sitting in the economy lot not responding to the fob. He had tried the fob from every angle. Nothing. Then he remembered the emergency insert blade was in the bag he had checked, the one now locked in the trunk.

He called the dealer. Earliest available was Thursday. It was Tuesday afternoon.

I told him I could be there in under an hour. He sounded like he had not fully believed that was possible.

When I got to the lot, the car was exactly where he left it a week ago. I used the emergency blade from my own reference fob to demonstrate the mechanical entry point to him, then we got the door open using the door lock cylinder. From there I connected to the OBD port, ran a read on the immobilizer system, and confirmed both fob slots still showed his key as registered. The battery had died somewhere over the middle of his trip and the system had logged a communication fault against it, but the pairing itself was intact. CR1632 swap, fault cleared, fob tested across all four buttons and both door handle sensors.

The moment the handles started responding again he just nodded slowly, like he was recalculating something.

He drove out of that lot before the tow truck he had almost called would have even arrived. The dealer option would have been two days of waiting, a tow bill on top of whatever they charged, and still the same fob sitting in the same car at the end of it. He paid a fraction of that, on site, same afternoon.
