2007 Toyota Land Cruiser
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy pulled into a spot near Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach and called me from the parking area. His 2007 Land Cruiser key had snapped, half the blade still seated in the ignition cylinder, the other half in his hand. He had been trying to wiggle it out himself and was starting to worry he had made it worse.

When I got there he was standing next to a well-traveled rig, clearly mid-trip. Not the kind of situation where waiting days at a dealer is an option.

I used a Lishi tool sized for this Toyota keyway to work the fragment loose without gouging the wafer surfaces. It came out clean. I decoded the lock while I had access to it, which gave me the cut data for the blade right there without guessing. Cut a new key blade, programmed the transponder through the OBD port, and then paired the remote portion of the remote head key so the lock and unlock functions came back too.

He watched most of it from the curb, which I prefer. Nothing to hide when the process is this routine.

Back on the road in well under an hour from his first call. He mentioned the dealer option on the way out. I just told him what the timeline would have looked like: tow, service intake, parts order, multi-day wait at a shop he had never been to. He nodded and left. That was the whole conversation about it.
