I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken key's chip, which was still intact inside the cracked housing. The VVDI2 reads the chip code even from a damaged key, saving time because I did not need a full all-keys-lost immobilizer reset. I extracted the blade fragment, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. Her fob, FCC ID HYQ14AAB, was a 3-button key that I rebuilt into a new shell with the salvaged chip and circuit board.
She went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was $266. A full AKL without the broken pieces would cost more, and the dealer wanted $465 regardless. If you still have the broken key, bring it. The chip inside a cracked fob is usually fine and makes the job faster and cheaper.
