2006 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
In Old Poway, I got a call from a doctor at a medical office building. She was between patients. Her fob had cracked somewhere along the way, the casing was split, and the key wasn't behaving reliably. The dealer's answer was to schedule an appointment, tow the car in, and wait. She had a waiting room full of patients and no half-day to spare for that.
She asked if I could come to the building's garage during her lunch break. That was the whole window.
I pulled in, met her at the car, and got to work. The 2006 Prius Smart Key fob uses a CR2032 battery and houses an emergency blade inside the housing. Her casing damage had put pressure on the battery contact and that was causing the intermittent detection failure. I built a replacement fob on site, transferred and registered the transponder to the vehicle through the diagnostic port, verified every function - door unlock, lock, and the remote functions on all three buttons - and handed it back before she had to return to her next patient.
Her car never left the parking spot. She didn't lose a single appointment.
The dealer comparison came up briefly. She mentioned what they'd quoted over the phone. I just told her to call us first next time, which she said she would.
