2007 Toyota Prius
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A homeowner in Ramona Highlands called because his 2007 Prius was sitting in guest parking inside a gated community and would not respond to the fob at all. The tow company he called first couldn't get past the gate without a resident escort, and he couldn't escort them because he had no car. He was stuck in a loop.

I drove in behind another resident and walked to his car with my bag.

The fob shell had cracked at the key ring loop - classic on these - and at some point the battery had shifted just enough to lose contact. The board looked fine. I transferred the electronics into a fresh shell, seated a new CR2032 with proper contact, and tested range and function before doing anything else. Fob came right back. The car recognized it, the push-to-start system responded, and he had a working key again without any programming work at all.

The whole thing took about fifteen minutes once I was standing next to the car. No tow. No dealer appointment. No waiting room. His car never moved an inch.

The dealer comparison came up on its own - he mentioned what a shop had quoted him over the phone before he called me. It wasn't close.
