2020 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A call came in at 5:30 in the morning from a parking lot off Bernardo Center Drive in Seven Oaks. The guy had a shift starting at six and his crew was already loading at the site. His 2020 Prius had sat overnight and the smart key was not waking up the car. Push-button start was not responding, the door handles were not sensing the fob, and he had already tried holding the fob directly to the start button, which is the Prius fallback when passive detection fails. Nothing.

The fob battery was the obvious first check. The CR2032 was reading low on the meter, not dead but not healthy. Swapped it, reseated the contact, retested. The door handles came back online. Push-button start responded. But the fob was still dropping out at distance, and the programming had flagged during the overnight, so I connected through the OBD port and ran a re-registration to clear the fault and resync the key to the car. Total hands-on time was about 20 minutes.
He made his shift. The car started in the same lot he left it.
The dealer would have meant a tow, a same-day appointment that probably was not available, and most of a workday gone. That is not a realistic option at 5:30 in the morning when someone has a crew waiting.
