2023 Toyota Prius
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Near CSUSM on a Friday night, a couple came out of an event and their 2023 Prius would not respond to either fob. Not one button on either one. They assumed something major had failed and started resigning themselves to leaving it overnight and calling the dealer Monday.

Then they found me instead.

I was already working the San Marcos area and got there in about fifteen minutes. First thing I did was pop both fobs open right there on the hood. Both CR2450 cells were original, still reading voltage on the meter, but just barely. Marginal batteries on this system do not always throw a clean failure. They just make everything feel broken: no door response, no start, range dropped to inches. Swapped both cells, cleaned the contacts, and the fobs came back immediately.

I still ran a full function check before I called it done. Every button, both handles, start. Everything responded clean.

They drove home that night. No tow, no waiting until Monday, no leaving the car in a parking lot all weekend. The dealer comparison came up on its own when they asked what that would have cost them. I just said a good chunk more, and they'd have lost the whole weekend on top of it.

That is the job a lot of the time. Not always a dramatic repair. Sometimes it is being there fast with the right parts, doing it right, and leaving nothing to chance.
