2009 Toyota Tundra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Toyota Tundra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman at an assisted living facility in Blossom Valley, Lakeside, called about a spare key for her 2009 Tundra. Getting to the dealer was not a casual errand for her. The nearest Toyota store was a freeway drive she no longer made, and her son lived out of state.

She had one working key left and wanted a backup before something happened to it. Smart thinking.

I pulled into the facility lot that morning. She came out to the parking area, handed me the key, and went back inside. I decoded the lock, cut a matching blade, and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port. Because she had one working key with her, I was able to use the onboard relearn sequence this generation supports, which keeps the job clean and fast without needing to wipe the system.

I knocked on the front desk and they brought her the two finished keys. She tested both in the door lock, both started the truck, and that was the whole appointment. She never left the building.

The dealer would have meant arranging a ride, sitting in a waiting room, and probably a parts order if they did not have the blank on the shelf. She saved a good chunk and did not have to ask her son to fly in for a key appointment.
