2019 Toyota Tundra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern. Low quote on the phone, vague answers when you ask about your specific vehicle, then a price jump once you're stuck. Ask them what the process is for a 2019 Tundra smart key. A real tech can tell you: it requires a diagnostic connection, not a button sequence, and the existing keys need to stay enrolled unless you're doing an all-keys-lost reset. If they can't answer that, hang up.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original factory fob?

Yes. Once the new fob is registered to your 2019 Tundra's vehicle security system, it behaves the same as the factory key. The engine starts, the doors respond, and every button function works as intended. I test every single function on the truck before I hand it to you. Not a quick click in the parking lot. I walk the doors, confirm the handle touch response, and run every button. You test it after me.

Q: I lost all the keys to my 2019 Tundra. Can you still make a replacement without a working key?

Yes, but the process is different and takes longer than a standard add-a-key job. All-keys-lost on a 2019 Tundra means the vehicle security system has to be fully reset through the OBD port, all previous key data cleared, and the new fob or fobs enrolled from scratch. There's a timed sequence built into the reset process that you can't rush. Plan for 45 minutes to an hour on site.

Q: My 2019 Tundra shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob battery is fine. What is actually going on?

This comes up more on Tundras than people expect. A few real causes beyond the battery: the fob's internal board can develop a hairline crack from being dropped, especially on a heavy keychain. The vehicle's antenna that reads the fob can also have a wiring issue, which shows up as intermittent detection rather than a total failure.

2019 Toyota Tundra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a text from someone in the Brown Field Area of Otay Mesa before I even left for the job. VIN, a photo of her registration, and one question: "How fast can you get here." That kind of prep is rare and it matters.

She had a working fob and wanted a spare added. Simple enough, but the 2019 Tundra smart key system doesn't let you skip the diagnostic step just because you have a working key in hand. The vehicle security system needs to see and register the new fob through the OBD port, not through any ignition-turn sequence. There's no shortcut on this platform.

I pulled up to the address, had the replacement fob blank already matched to her vehicle based on the VIN she sent. She met me outside. The whole neighborhood is quiet over there near the airfield, which I appreciate because I can hear the tools.

Connected at the port, ran the add-a-key sequence, and the system accepted the new fob on the first attempt. Then I walked every function: door lock, door unlock, the panic, and the remote start functions, all tested standing at the truck before I handed anything over. She tested it herself too, which I always ask people to do.

Total time was under twenty minutes from pulling in to driving away. She mentioned she'd called the dealer first. They told her to drop it off and come back the next day. For a spare key.

I didn't make a big deal of that. I just handed her the new fob and let the timing speak for itself.

Toyota Tundra Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Toyota vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license (LCO#6792) and carries full business insurance. For a 2019 Tundra, the smart key programming requires access to vehicle security functions through the OBD port. That means the technician needs proper credentials and professional-grade equipment, not a generic clone tool. We have what it takes to do this job correctly and stand behind the work with verifiable licensing you can look up yourself.
