2010 Toyota Tundra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Encinitas?

Depends on the schedule when you call, but I'm mobile and already on the road. I give you a real arrival window, not a guess. Dealers in this area often can't see you for days, and even with an appointment you're looking at time in a waiting room before anyone touches your truck. Call us first.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

In most cases, yes. I carry key blanks and programming equipment for the 2010 Tundra in my service van. If I'm working in the Moonlight Beach area and my schedule allows, I can come to you, cut the blade to your lock, program the transponder, and have you driving the same day you call. Toyota dealers routinely require appointments days out and may need to order parts before they can even start. Same-day is not something they can usually promise.

Q: My 2010 Tundra starts fine but stalls right after cranking. Could it be a key or immobilizer issue?

That's a known symptom pattern when the transponder chip isn't being read correctly by the immobilizer. The engine starts because the ignition system fires, then the vehicle security system cuts fuel or spark within a second or two once it confirms the key isn't recognized. It can also happen when a key has been cloned or cut from a blank that wasn't properly programmed.

Q: I bought a pre-cut key blank online for my 2010 Tundra. Can you just program it?

Sometimes, but it depends on the blank. Not every aftermarket key blank carries a compatible transponder chip, and some are sold as cut-ready but still need to be verified against your lock profile before they'll turn cleanly. If the blank checks out and the chip type is compatible, I can program it at your vehicle. If the chip isn't right, you're better off letting me supply the key so I know what I'm working with.

2010 Toyota Tundra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a medical office building near Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. A doctor had cracked her key at some point during the week, and by that morning the blade was loose enough that she wasn't sure it would cycle the ignition again.

She needed a fix between patients. Towing the truck to a dealer wasn't something she could schedule around a full patient load, and the dealer wanted the vehicle brought in.

I pulled into the parking garage during her break.

The blade was cracked near the shoulder, still attached but flexing. I decoded the cut from the lock, matched it on my cutter, and had a fresh key blank shaped in a few minutes. Then the programming through the OBD port to register the transponder chip with the immobilizer. Tested it in the ignition, let the truck run, verified it again with a cold cycle.

She was back inside before her next patient was called.

The dealer route would have meant a tow from a parking structure, an appointment days out, and most of a day burned. Her truck never left the spot she parked it in that morning. I left her with a working key and a spare, and she saved a solid chunk compared to what the dealer quoted.

How long does a 2010 Toyota Tundra key replacement take?▼

Most jobs on this truck run 30 to 45 minutes once I'm at your vehicle. Decoding the lock and cutting the blade goes fast. Programming the transponder chip through the OBD port adds a few minutes on top of that. If it's a straightforward add-a-key situation and you have a working key with you, the onboard relearn on this generation can speed things up.
