2020 Toyota Tundra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already running calls near La Mesa Village on a Friday night when the message came through. A couple had walked out of an evening out, hit the door handle on their 2020 Tundra, and nothing happened. Not slow, not intermittent. Just nothing. Both fobs. They assumed it was a dead battery situation, tried the other fob, same result. That's when people start to think something deeper is wrong.

They searched for a Toyota locksmith, found me, and I was there in about fifteen minutes.

I pulled up and the first thing I did was have them try the backup start method, holding the fob body directly to the start button. The truck fired up immediately. That told me both fobs were alive, the immobilizer was fine, and the key memory hadn't been corrupted. The issue was communication range, not programming.

Opened the first fob on the hood of my van. CR2032 was still showing voltage on the meter but had dropped low enough that the fob's transmit power had cut way down. That's a real thing with smart keys: the battery can look "not dead" and still be starving the transmitter. Swapped both fobs to fresh CR2032 cells, tested range in the parking lot, confirmed touch-unlock on both door handles, verified both fobs registered and starting the truck normally.

The whole thing took under twenty minutes. They didn't need new keys. They needed someone who could diagnose on the spot instead of telling them to bring it in Monday. That's the job.
