I picked the door, got him inside, then rehoused his original electronics into a fresh shell and seated a new CR2032. After that I cut a new HO01 emergency blade and ran the test sequence nobody wants to watch: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, remote start, then push-button ignition while watching the dash for the green key icon versus the blinking red one.
The human moment was him staring at his phone calendar like the car was about to cancel his entire day. Once the RLX started and stayed running with no KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM warning on the MID, his shoulders just dropped.
I programmed a second smart key on site so he is not living on one fob again. One-fob life always ends like this.
