Over in the Mountain View neighborhood in Fillmore, a college student flagged me down between classes. He had just picked up a 2020 Acura RLX from a private seller. One key. The seller swore a spare would be cheap. The Acura dealer quoted him a number that wiped out what was left of his savings after buying the car.

I met him at the lot. His RLX runs the KR580399900 proximity fob, part number 72147-TZ3-A51, with the Hitag 3 AES transponder on the 38901-TZ3-A01 board. I used my IM608 to pull the key data through the OBD port on the driver's side, registered a new smart key to the system, and cut the emergency insert blade by decoding his door cylinder. The whole thing took about 25 minutes.
While I worked, I walked him through the difference between add-a-key and all-keys-lost. Right now, with a working key present, it is a quick registration. If he ever loses both fobs, the reset involves a pin code pull and a timed security countdown that doubles the labor. Knowing that usually convinces people the second key pays for itself.
He drove off with two working fobs and never missed a class.
