2011 Audi Q5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Leisure Village in Camarillo is a quiet retirement community, mostly well-kept streets and neighbors who actually know each other. When I got the call, the owner had been waiting by his 2011 Q5 for about an hour.
He had been out on one of the walking paths and came back to find his pocket empty. The fob was gone, and this was his only one. He had bought the car used a few years back and the previous owner had never handed over a second key. He had just never gotten around to fixing that.
He was calm about it, which I appreciated. No drama, just a guy standing next to a locked SUV in a parking area on a nice Camarillo afternoon, waiting for this to get solved.
I started by decoding the door lock mechanically, reading the wafer positions in the cylinder to get the exact cut for the blade. Once I had that, I moved to the OBD port. All-keys-lost on this generation Q5 means the immobilizer has to be accessed, the existing key memory cleared, and then at least one new fob registered and confirmed. I had the right fob shell with the correct blade profile, cut it on site, and ran the programming sequence through my diagnostic equipment.
When the start button lit up and the engine turned over, he just nodded like he had expected it all along. I don't think he had, but he was the kind of guy who wasn't going to admit the relief out loud.
He mentioned the dealer had been his first thought, along with a tow since the car obviously wasn't going anywhere. That route would have meant a flatbed, a wait for parts, and a bill that would have made this afternoon feel a lot worse. Instead he was driving home through Leisure Village by early evening.
