2014 Audi Q5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was close to 10pm when the call came in, and the guy was standing in a dimly lit office park near the Premium Outlets Area in Camarillo. Tax season. Long day. And his only key to the Q5 was gone.
He had checked the desk, the break room, the parking lot twice. Nothing. No spare anywhere. He did not have his registration on him, was fuzzy on what a VIN even was, and was already mentally mapping the Uber ride home to deal with it tomorrow.
I kept him on the phone. Told him to stand at the driver's side and look through the lower left corner of the windshield with his phone flashlight. He found the VIN. Then I had him open his insurance app, and the registration was right there.
That VIN told me everything I needed before I even pulled out of my driveway. The key type, the generation of the security system, which blank to bring. I loaded the right fob and headed out.
When I got there, I pulled the security data through the OBD port, generated the key, and programmed the fob under the parking lot lights. All four buttons confirmed working. Touch unlock on both front handles. Start button responding. The whole job was done before the office park got any quieter.
He drove home that night. The dealer was closed, and even if they weren't, they would have needed the car towed in, ordered a key, and made him wait days. Texting me your VIN before I arrive just makes the job faster. That part costs nothing.
